Normalcy now a days...it's a lot different than a couple of months ago. What was normal last year is different today. This is the same with Camp Michael; the normal preparations for the camp season this year have not been normal. Instead of preparing camp we found ourselves praying more, reading changing guidelines, and talking to State and Health Officials trying to get some type of direction on how and if we could operate camp this year.
This announcement comes with great sorrow. Due to Covid-19, the extensive regulations, and lack of published guidelines from the Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs for overnight camps, we have made the difficult decision to cancel all summer camp programs. We have spent countless hours in prayer, and have shed many tears over having to make this decision. It is hard to wrap our hearts and minds around a still and quiet season without the laughter, excitement, fellowship, spiritual growth, and discipleship that a typical camp season brings with our campers and staff. We are confident that OUR GOD IS IN CONTROL as He has been since before the beginning of time. This is His ministry and it is our desire to move forward upholding the testimony of Camp Michael.
Please stay in prayer with us about our Fall Retreats as we have not cancelled these events yet. Also note, Camp Michael is looking at the possibility of adding a Family Camp to the schedule in August. (Decisions will be made by the Camp Board in July; look for future announcements on this prospect.) It is much more reasonable to facilitate the necessary distancing protocols with families. There will obviously be some necessary adjustments, but we will be taking extra precautions to provide a safe environment while abiding by all applicable Health Department directives. Obviously, this proposal is only realistic if we receive word that resident overnight camps are permitted to re-open.
I thank you for your commitment to Camp Michael over the years. Camp continues to move forward doing all for the glory of God. We look forward to seeing you the next time that we are allowed to fellowship again. I ask that you pray for Camp Michael and the decisions that still need made. Please pray for our staff who will not be ministering on grounds this season, pray for the campers who will not be able to enjoy their week of camp, and continue to pray for our President and Government.
No matter what we are going through there is one thing that has not changed. GOD LOVES YOU AND SENT HIS SON FOR YOU. 1 John 4:9, "In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent his only begotten Son into the world that we might live through him." Acts 16:31, "Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house."
